I wonder if I can find or build a caching im server that I can poll every 5 or 10 minutes from work for updates. The silence is killing me!

I didn’t even know it existed. It says it’s built on rinetd, so I could potentially build it on one of my Linux hosts. I don’t think my issue at work is so much that I’m trying to hit a blocked resource (since I can actually log in and use Meebo), but the frequency with which I’m hitting it. The network support guys were getting SurfControl alerts (I guess), but I’m not sure if it gets suspicious about the continuous traffic that I assume is being generated by an idle session. I’m friendly with a couple of the network pukes, so maybe I’ll ask one of them…
Thanks for the tip.
