Daniel, Grandma and the Bible
Daniel’s Grandma joined her Savior five years ago. We have pictures of her on an end table and the mantle and have told Daniel since he was born that those are pictures of Grandma. She is a very real part of his life and he doesn’t know to question that he’s never met her in person.
Daniel has a couple of story Bibles with paper pages, which he can use with supervision, but I wanted him to have a board book story Bible that he could look at whenever he wanted. I found one this weekend that I really like. After a couple of days of reading from his Bible, he told me that he loved his Bible by holding it to his temple. That’s how he says that he loves his toys or any object he has affection for. Sometimes he offers me the toy to love by holding it to my temple. Occasionally he offers it to Papa to love while Papa is at work by then holding it out to the front door.
Today we were sitting on the couch looking at Daniel’s Bible and Daniel held it to his temple so I said, “Does Daniel love his Bible?”. Then he held it to me, so I put it to my temple and said, “Yes, Mama loves his Bible, too”. Then Daniel did something he has never done before. He held out the Bible to the picture of Grandma on the end table. With goosebumps running up and down my spine I said, “Yes, Grandma loves your Bible, too.”
