It is taking a while for the Zegerid to kick in. It can take up to two weeks. So Daniel is having acid pain, mostly at night and in the morning and it is so sad and pitiful. Because of this he doesn’t get much sleep and is tired whenever he’s awake. We are all praying the Zegerid will become fully effective as soon as possible and give this poor little guy some much deserved rest and relief.
Zantac had slowed his digestive system down. He was having a poop once a week. Off Zantac, he now has a poop once a day – stangely enough at exactly 1:45 a.m. This wakes him up from a sound sleep. He’s happy in this picture because we just changed his diaper after his daily poop. But right after this he started having acid pain and things got really sad.

Daniel has grown so much he was pressing up against all sides of his Moses basket. He can spread out in his crib.

Teething? We aren’t sure. Only time will tell. Daniel has recently started drooling a lot. Here he is licking his teething ring.

Daniel thinks his Bumbo seat makes him feel like a big boy, but it makes him look so tiny.

Reflux update:
We discovered that Zantac and Zegerid interfere with each other, so we had to go cold turkey off the Zantac. This leaves Daniel unprotected from the acid until the Zegerid starts working. Thursday morning his acid was really strong, probably a side effect of coming off Zantac after being on it for several weeks. Poppy and Mimi needed a distraction, so used an old fashioned sink bath, which Daniel enjoyed dispite his acid woes.

Because Daniel spent weeks screaming and crying through the wee hours, although he doesn’t cry now, his days and nights are switched. For now we will leave it since he sleeps during Mimi’s hours, which is best for Mimi.
So after Daniel eats at 1 a.m. he stays up for the next few hours. Poor guy is tired because he hasn’t had enough sleep since he was born (neither has Mama).
These days I just pile my hair on top of my head, so that maybe once I survive Daniel’s infancy I will have some left. He’s not hair deprived since he gets to pull Mimi’s most days.

The reflux adventure continues. Our wonderful doctor prescribed Zegerid, which is what we wanted to try, but it may take several days to become effective, so Daniel will need to continue Zantac for a while. The doctors and pharmacists don’t seem to know this, but the parents in the forums do. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel, just the tunnel is probably 5 to 14 days longer.
One of the worst things about the Zantac is the insomnia. A baby screaming with acid in his throat is very pitiful. But another pitiful thing is a two-month-old baby that wants to sleep so bad try everything in his little power to try to induce sleep. Daniel has only gotten about half the sleep he should since starting Zantac. And lately, even that sleep is really difficult to achieve and can usually only occur with Daniel laying on Mama or Mimi. So pray this new drug kicks in quickly so we can finally get Daniel off Zantac and finally get this poor baby some sleep.
Another evil of Zantac is that it can become ineffective with time. We don’t know if this has happened or if he outgrew his dose, but toward the end of the 12-hour period after taking Zantac, Daniel will have acid pain. So the poor thing has all the bad side effects and the acid. Yesterday morning he cried for an hour with acid pain. After Papa consoled him to sleep he laid him down and this is what Daniel did. He’s just expressing his true feelings about acid.

This is our second night without colic. I’m almost afraid to hope. Papa and Mama are meeting with the doctor today to discuss the Zantac issues.
Daniel is so-so on his foo-foo. He loves textures and touching things. When he was fussy in the car after this last outing, Mimi suggested a security blanket. Mama sent Papa out to find one with the specifications that it was really soft, had satin edging and was either green, yellow or blue. Papa outdid himself finding this. It has a teddy head and arms. Daniel loves to touch and pet it and of course stick it in his mouth.
Since Daniel has been having colic fits ever night, his days and nights are reversed. He was up ALL night. This is a 3 a.m. picture. I told Papa before he went to bed that knowing Daniel was due for his once weekly huge poop that I had the feeling it would happen at 3 a.m. Right after taking this picture I discovered this is why Daniel was so happy. So right after this, Daniel had a bath. I’ll spare you all the picture of the poopy mess.

Believe it or not, Daniel does have a Mama. There just aren’t many pictures with Daniel and Mama. Papa’s Dad visited yesterday and took these pictures.

For Daniel’s first non-doctor/picture outing, Mama and Papa took him to their favorite burger place.
Now usually when Daniel is in his car seat he ends up at the doctor, or the vet as we often slip and say. Here he is looking not so sure about the trip:
But then it seemed like it might be fun:
Or even kind of funny:
He was asleep when we got there:
But woke up before we left:
Poor little guy fussed some on the way home. When we got home he was definitely overstimulated. Papa played his white noise CD, gave him his foo-foo and sang to him until he was calm.
